Austerity, Splendour + Spectacle: A Narrative of the Roman Domus Part 2 Dissertation 2015 Jessica Gottlieb University of New South Wales | Australia The Roman Domus serves as an ancient model of the courtyard house pattern. Utilizing this framework, ‘Austerity, Splendour + Spectacle’ reimagines the human pursuit of the good life by exploring manifestations of austerity in the habitation of the Pompeian House of the Vetti. The reimagining of the narrative of the domus, serves as a personal exploration where a reciprocal dialogue is activated between the often conceived antithetical nature of splendour + austerity; renewing the life of a building by engaging a new architectural account in conversation with the world.
