ACADEMIC SUBURB : New University Library at UWE's 1970's modernist campus Part 2 Project 2004 Brian Cashman University of the West of England | UK The Library was designed from the inside out (with internal environments being generated with the end-user in mind). Designed as two buildings separated by a circulation zone. The entrance building houses all services, admin and IT facilities whilst the rear wings act as book repositories and study spaces. Users have a choice of environments, a wintergarden for browsing and study carrels for research and study. The building adopts various sustainable principles, the structure itself is integral to the storage of the vast catalogue. By providing a building that encourages the stimulation and production of knowledge the designer hopes to have created a building whose FORM truly FOLLOWS FUNCTION.
