The Whole-body Seer: Blindness as Narrative, Subject and a Way of Seeing

Part 1 Dissertation 2018
Marie-Henriette Desmourès
London Metropolitan University | UK
Exceptional wisdom is often expressed through imagery of both sight and light (‘bright’, ‘visionary’), while the blind metaphor falls under themes of ignorance or innocence. This dissertation investigates blindness in relation to the elements of scale, language, format and curiosity as both a subject of interest and narratives of perception, change and loss. Sequentially from a distanced viewpoint to interpretations of different darknesses.
