Initial discussions ended with the question: are we displacing ourselves? By collecting discarded items around the city our process began. Discussions became forms, forms became statements and our statements were tested around the city. The project became immediate and changeable: action directed the project and forms frequently became ambiguous. It raised more questions than it solved and piecing together our individual experiences made the project become clearer. At college, we are trained into ways of seeing, but removed from reality: this project reminded us of the importamnce of real people and the value of joint projects however small.



DISPLACED PEOPLE - RISKS FROM HABITATION AND CONSUMPTION
This two week project arose out of a discussion on the Tsunami and evolved out of the students overwhelming desire to focus attention on the plight of people throughout the whole world who were displaced through aggression, natural disasters or who were nomadic or orphaned. Students with shared preoccupations gravitated together. Each group designed and fabricated a portable installation. These installations were deployed as social instruments across the city of Edinburgh during the course of one whole day to promote the awareness of displaced people. The students recorded the ensuing public events as they unfolded.
