Development of Alexandria Old Fish Market Part 2 Project 2006 Sarah A. Al Saadani Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport - Alexandria Campus | Egypt The project's site is located in a historical area in Alexandria waterfront. The proposed design solution is based on the rehabilitation of the existing old-historical-building in combination with a contemprory group of buildings in a special context. The design concept was to work with the past and apply todays modern technology echoing the traditional vocabularies of the place. The functions added are a new auction hall with a computerized system, fish selling shops and a variety of fish food restaurants. This creates an environment for than just fisherman to enter. The structure is a lighweight fabric structure. It is a group of net like structure using tension cables adjoined together. The idea was inspired from the fishermens net. Sarah A. Al Saadani The proposed design has successfully met the program theme and requirements. The jury members have agreed that the employed vocabularies and form were properly selected. The progress of the project's design process was obviously accomplished.The employed environmental control systems were successfully chosen to respond to climatic conditions. The final presentation of the project has showed the student's understanding and interpretation of course aim.
