royal society for scotland Part 2 Project 2006 Tadashi Arai Mackintosh School of Architecture | UK Tower for the Future: The Royal Society of Scotland Scotland’s Institute of ScienceThis thesis proposal is for a new centre for the Royal Society of Scotland – the Scottish Institute of Science. The creation of a new tower is a response to the round tower of the Museum of Scotland - two towers to celebrate the past and the future of Scotland. While the tower of the Museum of Scotland is made of stone cladding and inspired by a Scottish castle, the new tower should be inspired by technology and a lightness of structure. This floating box itself shows a visible demonstration of the environmental aspect and these eternally changing facades celebrate Scotland’s bright scientific future. This student’s project looks very modest but in fact has a rigorously developed technical language with environmentally responsive facades each responding to the conflicts of context and programme.
