The Hub: a Joint Facility for the Liverpool Universities Part 1 Project 2012 Simona Ileana Cojocaru University of Liverpool | UK The University Hub should be representative of the four universities in Liverpool and peculiar to none. It should be a place of welcome, where students can meet, relax and socialize. The chosen site is right next to the Metropolitan Cathedral, one of the most important landmarks of the city, therefore the main characteristic of the scheme is a completely glazed structure for the hall, in order to offer the best views. The rest of the building is set along both sides of this atrium. The second important feature of the scheme is the preservation of all the trees on the site, incorporating them within the building. This helps creating THE ROUTE, the third important characteristic: a series of tree houses which function as study pods and ramps connecting them, linking all the spaces in the design. This route offers a series of different experiences: indoor/outdoor, lit/dark spaces, connection with nature, and views. Tutor(s) Professor Neil Jackson
