Art School Gallery - a visible position Part 2 Project 2013 Babak Borbor Akademie der Bildenden Kunste Munchen Munich | Germany The old building of the academy was developed at the end of the 19th century in relationship to the specific axis of Leopoldstraße and Ludwigstraße. Along this axis the academy occupies the pivotal point adjacent to the Siegestor. The design of the new building should not compete with the recent academy expansion by Coop Himmelb(l)au but should rather enhance the space between the old academy and the Siegestor, where the new Gallery will find its place. The new gallery space creates a finite composition between the Siegestor and the existing academy building to create a new public square. In order to create an urban harmony the new art gallery refers to the classical architecture of the existing academy and translates it into a contemporary language. The interior of the new gallery offers a rich sequence of spatial experiences which enables a large variety of artworks to be appropriately presented. Tutor(s) Carlo Baumschlager
