Rehabilitation Center Part 2 Project 2014 Yngvi Karl Sigurjónsson Aarhus School of Architecture | Denmark The goal for this thesis project is to make an environment for people dealing with depression and sadness. A place where they feel secure and feel like they are a part of something bigger. This is supposed to be a secure area for patients, a sanctuary and a place for individuals to grow. A refuge, a home away from home, where individuals can heal and conquer this difficult and chronic disease. The retrieve center for depression should not represent the feeling of a hospital or an institutional building but a home away from home. Our mind and body responds to the space we are in at any time and it affects us. By using elements in architecture it is possible to connect medical and social aspects together. It is also possible to promote the wellbeing of people with different perception of space, texture and colour. How the light penetrates into a space and how they play with shadow and the gradient of depth it possesses. Body and mind are interconnected. Where an individual feels comfort, he is most likely to achieve progress. This building(s) are supposed to help individuals and the society as a whole. It is necessary to wipe out the negative discussion that follows and hangs over depression. Tutor(s) Anders Gammelgaard Nielsen
