Archaeological site "The Museum". Culture and Business Centre "Quarter 71", Plovdiv, Bulgaria Part 2 Project 2015 Tanya Valkanova University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy | Bulgaria Main subject of my thesis project is the so-called archaeological site "The Museum", quarter 71, Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The territory of the site covers a whole quarter of 7000 sq. m. in the heart of the city of Plovdiv. Despite its central location, the place has turned into an isolated and problematic territory. Additional challenge to its future is the fact, that the whole site is a private property. The key challenge is to find a balanced solution for:• Conservation of the archaeological structures and connecting them to the present city.• Securing ongoing interest and visits and• Answering the demands of the private interest and securing a sustainable source for self-support.To solve this complex situation, the project presents an innovative approach to the existing concrete intervention at the archaeological site, interpreting all preserved historical layers in the new structure and proposes the development of the territory as a place for culture and business, blending public and exhibition spaces with office spaces and seminar rooms. An important aspect is providing full public access to the archaeological site, allowing not only visits, but also ongoing archaeological research and educational activities. Tutor(s) Donika Georgieva
