Proposed Comic Art Project at Jalan Perhentian, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) Part 2 Project 2015 Muhammad Yusri Bin Fardi MARA University of Technology - Shah Alam campus | Malaysia In the 1980’s and 90’s the comic industry of Malaysia was the stage for reflecting the country’s social, environmental and economic image. With time, however, the public acceptance of comic has waned. The goal of “Comic Art Project” is to revive Malaysian comic both locally and internationally by providing a centre for the public to gain better understanding about local comic. It is a multi-functional development comprising exhibition, academic and commercial premises. It will not act as a gallery to watch and view products, but act as an arena for educating the public about comic process from idea generation until production stage, and its capability to evolve within the community in terms of media presentation. Amongst the main design strategies are maximizing public space and access at ground level, comic container as main gallery, open studio concept for creative factory, and green parks as intermediate space. Besides these functional and philosophical design approaches, the technical aspects of structural system, fire prevention and various M&E services are each endowed with innovation in the various mechanisms. Located in Sentul, “Comic Art Project’ will become the national attraction for comic in the middle of the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. Tutor(s) Rashidah Binti Ab.
