DEVA: Urban Stratification from Roman Garrison to Multi-Level City

Part 2 Project 2017

University of Nottingham Nottingham | UK
Aiming to promote Chester’s historical importance, this thesis proposes a ‘Heritage Centre’ within the city’s walls.

Consisting of an Archaeological Museum, Education Hub and Archive, this proposal benefits the accessibility of Chester’s past, thereby manufacturing a multi-level, timeless architecture that remains sympathetic to its ‘listed’ surroundings.

Drawing spatial stimuli from the city’s ‘Rows’, the Romans’ influence on Chester’s street-plan has in turn influenced the key ethos for this thesis proposal.
