Burrow Hall: A Stately Home for the Master Mariner Part 1 Project 2017 Joseph Istance University of Lincoln Lincoln | UK The project looks at designing a Stately Home for the Master Mariner, the immortal titular character from Nicholas Monsarrat’s epic seafaring novel, “The Master Mariner”, on Burrow Island, Portsmouth Harbour, as a memory palace for the treasure and artefacts accumulated during his travels. The notion of Magical Realism within architecture conceives a real, concrete architecture that is invaded by elements of fantasy to create an alternative depiction of reality.
