Mothers’ Sanctum Part 1 Project 2018 Sasha Mckinlay University of Bath | UK The Mothers’ Sanctum is an interrogation of contemporary birthing culture, and particularly its stubborn rejection of the bodily experience. This project reengages with the mythology, ritual and tradition circumscribing primal birth to amplify this extraordinary phenomenon. The resulting retreat is nestled into the elemental coast of Portland, primarily consisting of a communal longhouse and a necklace of anthropomorphic birthing chambers, which stand tribute to the unique journey of birth.
