The Luxury Estate – Revisiting Modernist Housing, Chelmsley Wood Part 2 Project 2018 Ryan Gormley Birmingham City University | UK The Luxury Estate critiques the modernist principles which underpinned the initial 1960s Post War Council Estate development of Chelmsley Wood through reimaging the estate as a development of modernity enriched in the architectural aspirations of Post War Britain. Through a romantic analysis of the estate’s modernist housing and rich context, an alternative future for the estate’s declining housing was proposed which uses the existing site as a tool for regeneration.
