The Loop Part 1 Project 2019 Ka Yee Chau Chinese University of Hong Kong | China This project gives a new definition to the Hong Kong municipal building, which provides multiple services to the neighbourhoods. The connection between different programs is crucial in this design. Since the existing municipal buildings are having low porosity between spaces and programs, visual connectivity is the main design concept for the organisation. To achieve spatial connectivity, a new typology of a "loop" shape is created to enable visual connections. Each program block will have a courtyard in the middle to have skylight and connection to other spaces. A service bar is built on the south elevation to have lift cores and other services such as toilets and pantries.Being an interface between the regular Kowloon city grid and curvy irregular pavements from the park, the project acts as a converter to reflect the change of the city grid. To respond to the two conditions, the building composites of different facades from different viewing angles. Facade facing the street view will be flat to response to the Tong Lau's elevation, while having a stepping down and transparent facade towards the park. Tutor(s) Brian Anderson
