Re-Dressing Lady Lane: A Colony of Performance, Transformation and Grotesque Flamboyance Part 2 Project 2019 Hanzla Asghar Leeds Beckett University | UK Urban Mannequins depict the fight for expression of displaced and persecuted performers inspired by the documentary Paris is Burning. Through a series of rooms of transformation, workshops, teaching and making spaces and performance platforms the community acts out its life through ritual dressing and performance. The project is a series of urban mannequins that are ‘dressed’ to express the different stages of dressing and each is a metaphor for the unique individual, their monolithic concrete construction represents the body, its intricate interior and the raw undressed exterior skin; mimicking blemishes, defects and ageing skin within the various exterior concrete finishes. Five different mannequins contain the transformation spaces; Shaving & Bathing, Tucking, Make-up, Body Contouring and Dressing (wigs, heels, nails and accessories). Hanzla Asghar Tutor(s) Simon Warren
