Poetics Part 1 Project 2020 Sean Choi Korea National University of Arts | South Korea How can ‘Poetic Architecture’ be defined? One may start with ‘home’ as an initial phenomenological object of poetic space. The home is poetic through its simplicity and intimacy.Physically, a home is simply a set of walls and a roof, assisting and sustaining the person living within. Yet we fill it with so much more. We fill it with our most intimate selves, and our most intimate relations. This intimacy becomes memory, and as time goes on, a vague emotion. As a result, we are left with an instinctive yet unconscious connection between architecture and emotion. As time goes on, there comes sporadically fulfilled moments of connection. In these moments, architecture acts as a vessel to an emotion which lays beneath our conscious. This project aims to realize this sense of poetics in architecture at a scale slightly larger than home; community. As much as the home is a place of intimacy, the village was also a place of intimacy in the past, with another plethora of relations intertwined within. Tutor(s) Do Eun Lee
