The Introverted House Part 1 Project 2020 Hiu Wai Chan Chinese University of Hong Kong | China The Introverted House, a public sports centre, stands to honour the history of A Kung Ngam, and the integrity of whom that lived and strived in this historical part of Shau Kei Wan.The building is opened up along the central axis towards the monumental quarry face, directing people to this forgotten physical testament ofShau Kei Wan's history. The indoor sports hall, partly embedded into the sloped site, is also opened to a panorama view of the quarry. With its static presence, it makes great contrast with the active movements of the athletes. The site surrounding is comprised of industrial buildings and squatter houses. Including the original Basel Road Playground, these places are full of life within their quiet exteriors. Thus, inspired by the chiseled quarry marks and corrugated metal sheets, this sports centre adopts a solid facade of fluted concrete facing the streets. On the contrary, along the central walkway, the border becomes as transparent as possible, allowing the exchange of energy and liveliness as people get closer and into the complex.
