The Botanical Gallery Part 1 Project 2020 Olivia Walton Nottingham Trent University | UK My project is informed throughout by the design language established in the Urban Artefact chapter. This geometrical style is a result of combining research on Sheffield's history and design inspiration from artist Olafur Eliasson. The project involved urban masterplanning through gradually introducing the geometrical language, culminating in the piazza, private gardens and the building - The Botanical Gallery. The ground floor contains the Botanical Gallery, which displays nature from around the world, and student accommodation is found on the upper floors. The scheme provides a range of large, open areas combined with more intimate spaces.Members of the public and students can experience private, reflective moments, whilst also being inspired and invigorated by larger, communal spaces. The consistent geometric design language is visible throughout, reflecting the detail at all scales, from the building form to the handrails. Thus creating a unified project, which provides a unique and fully considered architectural proposal. Tutor(s) Gabor Gallov
