Located in an urban suburb with notable commercial and institutional facilities spread throughout.

The Site acquired by the Sri Lanka Institute of Landscape Architects, a marshland amidst an urban suburb, is treated as the community dumpsite. The Negligence of the Community is leading to the destruction of the Eco-System within the marshland, which is unacceptable.

At its very root, the Eco-System in a Marshland is an interdependency between the inhabitants and the habitat, ensuring mutual benefit and thereby achieving sustenance; very much similar to the mission and vision of the Client.

The Design sits lightly on the land, comfortably and adequately functioning with minimal impact on the context. Functional Spaces are linked together with communal pods to encourage interaction. Niches and Vistas at different levels offer users interesting views at the varying canopy levels.

The Master Plan, which celebrates the flora of the marshland, encourages residents, visitors and passers-by to experience the stark contrast between the natural and artificial world by creating a green pocket within the urban suburb.

The Design response addresses the concerns of the context whilst responding to the requirements of the client, harmoniously “Unveiling Landscape Architecture & the Lightness of Architectural Articulation”.
