Post-Digital Horizons (Holborn School for Arts and Crafts) Part 2 Project 2020 Francesca Bufano De Montfort University | UK Post-Digital Horizons is an exploration of the reconciliation of the digital and the analogue as a way of exploring the future of this architectural analogy. The project exhibits a series of explorations into the representational qualities of casting and how this was used in the production of assemblages that dictate the spatial qualities of the building. This included an investigation into 'digital authenticity' withing the crafting process and how this can be reflected at an architectural scale. Emerging from an existing building; equipped to accommodate workspaces for 'pre-digital' or 'analogue' tools required in order for students to learn each craft. The building grows from moment of connection in the existing rooms, forming clusters that expand the school and connect new and old rooms across the exposed façade. These ‘nodes of acupuncture’ create connections from the old to the new, digital to analogue. The physical connection reflecting the weaving of digital production into traditional craft, allowing for serendipitous design. These workspaces evolve over time spreading as a parasitic entity to accommodate new facilities. Finally, a 'Tower of Things' (Post-Digital Archive) celebrates the 3D printer as the dominant tool for the Post-Digital craftsperson. Tutor(s) Alexander Mills Era Savvides
