Forgotten Things

Part 1 Project 2021

University of East London London | UK
The Clerkenwell Sculpture academy provides studio and workshop facilities as well as accommodation for eight young artists. Located in Clerkenwell, London, the site sits within the Hatton Garden Conservation Area and is sandwiched between two quiet backstreets.

A public gallery is created with the adaptive re-use of the historically significant Ragged School Building on Vine Hill and a new public courtyard space for Clerkenwell is provided on a previously underused site.

The combined academy and gallery would be led by Rachel Whiteread, and host visiting artists.
The proposal intends to address issues faced by young artists by providing graduates the opportunity to live, work and exhibit in London whilst establishing industry connections and learning from renowned sculptors.

The project responds to the works of Rachel Whiteread by adapting and utilising her ethos as an approach to the site.
