Ecotone Through the Time Part 1 Project 2021 Mingjia Shi University of Melbourne | Australia What would contemporary architecture behave when it becomes history? Would it become a frozen monument like the traditional architecture we currently have, which describes the story that happened to it once before? Or could it always find its way to adapt to new conditions with new meanings, no matter whether the primary host is human or other creatures?Ecotone is a project that focuses on discussing the underlying problems of the current inhabitable architecture, including high-density living and the fragility of immobilization. The term ‘Ecotone’ refers to the interaction boundary region of the different environments that tend to achieve balance after the adjustment. This balance is dynamic and would change according to the creatures inside and present the adjacent environment’s main characteristics. Deconstructing the basic concept of the room, what is left, is the space and architectural elements. There are no presets, but the boundary of maximum scope. At Ecotone, you have no set room, but a living sphere made up of your response to location, environment, and personal habits. No matter in which stage, pre-pandemic, during-pandemic or post-pandemic, from human dominant era to post-human era, Ecotone is always alive with its soul reborn again and again endowed with different meanings.
