21st Century Habitat Part 1 Project 2021 Esteban Cuellar GutierrezMaria Molina Ruiz Pontifical Xavierian University | Colombia This project is situated in the city of Cartagena, Colombia. Since colonial times, the protective responsibility of the fortresses detonated a physical rupture of the territory, affecting dynamics of implantation and urbanization. Currently, the city is clearly segmented, generating social inequality and territorial disconnection. Furthermore, the ecological deterioration due to geographic modification in response to population growth and the growth of industrial and port areas results in a city that is slowly drowning into its own difficulties.Climate change and sea live rise are threatening to practically disappear this World Heritage City in the next fifty years. Hence, we start our proposal from a new urban plan that restructures the development of the city for the future, where hydric bodies and green areas are the structural elements. These results into a new citadel that appropriates water as the base of mobilization and human interactions.Inside this citadel, the project ends in a block development. Our choice responds architecturally and volumetrically as the gate of the citadel, a system of buildings that carry out a centre of cultural and touristic activities, all based on the importance of water being the catalyst of human interactions.
