Neacsu's Library from Campulung Part 2 Project 2021 Alma Baciu Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism | Romania This project is a way to celebrate 500 years since the first known document in Romanian was written (Neac?u's letter from Câmpulung). The site is the town of Câmpulung Muscel, one of the oldest settlements in Wallachia and its first capital. Even though this place was a point of cultural reference, the city has lost its bookish character over time.Nowadays the only library in the town doesn’t meet the current demands for a contemporary library either in terms of public spaces or in terms of book storage space. In a city with over twenty schools, the library has a single reading room that can accommodate a maximum of fifteen people. Thus, the extension of the building has become a need both from a pragmatic but also cultural point of view, reviving the pleasure for reading and writing. With such a meaningful context to the location, I have designed this proposal following three principles:a. Homogeneity between old and new;b. Care for the existing building -which is a historical monument-, leaving the rear facades visible at street level;c. The use of local materials (Albe?ti stone).
