'Buurten Oversteken’. Crossing Neighbourhoods. Part 2 Project 2021 Monika Lulczynska University of Central Lancashire | UK Neighbourhood Unit is located within the edges of Feijenoord – neighbourhood of Rotterdam city. This is a prototype model for the new quality of a neighbourhood, which is directed to emphasise a strong sense of community throughout its approach. The aim of this project is to focus on the main elements, to help to revitalise the idea of neighbourhoods. Spaces such as courtyards and walkways are designed based on the mixed land use, to allow different income and age groups to interact within day-to-day neighbourly events. The ground level, which volumes of columns rise from will serve as roads. This will allow for the smooth movement of pedestrians, bicycles and disabled, in between the courtyards and the adjacent neighbourhoods. The colonnade system is purposely used as a design device to emphasise the porosity of the structure and its integrity with the landscape, with the aim to help with the reinterpretation of connections and distribution of the programme.Main spaces such as dwellings, offices, small local businesses and main social areas will be fitted within pockets of natural fauna, to promote wellbeing within its sustainable design approach.
