Part 1 Project 2022

In an age where so much is wasted, yet in which we have finite space to put such waste, learning to be efficient with existing resource becomes key, and the Waste of Space Museum allows the public to explore these issues.

The experience comprises of three parts: the first introduces the topic of wasted space, prompting visitors to immediately question their own philosophy on how much space we want vs. what space we need.
Second is the warehouse, a derelict building on site that houses not useful space, but space that is filled by what we throw away. Piles are filled with items that hadn’t reached the end of their life that had been thrown away out of convenience. This largely contains construction waste, sourced from the warehouse.

Finally, visitors enter the workshop area, the new build, built on a hexagonal grid for efficiency of space. The hexagonal structure takes inspiration from nature, giving back the negative spaces including a roof garden and apiary. This large space that can be divided up, giving it more potential as a flexible space.

This museum highlights the importance of working with what we already have, to inspire more efficient ways of living.
