Dazzle Gallery Part 1 Project 2022 Nasser Albuhumaid University of Salford Salford | UK “Dazzle Gallery” is dedicated to housing the artist Norman Wilkinson’s work which was characterized by his fascination with the sea and marine objects. His invention of “Dazzle Camouflage” art was used to protect British battleships by painting distorted patterns on them which create illusions that deceived enemy attackers and lowered the rate of success of their torpedo attacks. Therefore, the proposed design will try to emulate that idea of deception and illusion but in architectural form. The proposed design generates an intricate network of public and private spaces that are stacked in an abstract manner to replicate my chosen artists’ distorted art style. Therefore, the volumes are not stacked directly on top of one another and only overlap in certain parts as they alternate in size and orientation. These volumes are arranged surrounding a central atrium ‘space of chaos’ area that incorporates steel-supported glazed roofs, slanted walls, and walkways that act as circulation. Additionally, natural elements are preserved and emphasized such as the waterfront view to pay homage to Wilkinson’s interest in nature and to promote sustainability.
