Housing.3

Part 1 Project 2022

Located in the heart of Chichester, in the shadow of the Cathedral, Housing.3 provides multiple spaces for digital nomads, underprivileged, and artists looking to establish themselves in the physical and digital realms. Given the rise of web.3, Housing.3 aims to bring together those passionate about emerging technologies under the same roof and create interactions with underprivileged people who wish to develop new skills. This blend of living looks to create a diverse mix of personalities that can learn and grow from each other, allowing everyone to uncover unforeseen perspectives.

The building provides temporary and residential accommodation for those in need as well as a residency in its artist studios which are designed with ‘exhibition’ as a core element. A social pull is created through the site’s historical significance; located above former Roman Baths, Housing.3 excavates the ancient ruins whilst incorporating a contemporary bath for retreat and rejuvenation.

The city’s heritage is acknowledged through the relationship between Housing.3’s contemporary fabric and the protected facade of the former Oliver Whitby School. The newly adapted facade acts as a threshold between physical and virtual realms, with the ‘work pods’ bridging that gap.
