The Crystal Less Lane purposefully incorporates aspects of social evil, public engagement and rehabilitation into an integrated, evocative, and public precinct located in the heart of a regional city.

This precinct aims to address the issue of substance abuse focussing primarily on narcotics. It does so by creating a safe space where users can undergo monitored injections and seek medical aid with immediacy.
Through design interventions the user is guided through rehabilitation spaces and support groups enabling them to transition from spectators to participants and eventually residents, if necessary.

This is expressed architecturally using different journeys or pathways through the site, including punctuations in balconies and framed views into other spaces. Carefully considered volumes of varying size serve as possibilities for placemaking within the rehabilitation and mixed-use zones.

Gradual engagement is designed to help reintegrate with the surrounding community through activities such as art exhibitions, workshops, and hospitality spaces.

Respect for the participants plight by providing a location that is a logical inclusion into the normal street fabric, over time, will pave a way back to the community, lowering the chances of relapse.
