“4 Warps and 2 Wefts” consists of a ribbon-like walkway that weaves you through a vertical garden and creative hub for independent textile artists allowing designers to make and sell their designs within the environment of multi-purpose pods, springing from and renewing the 19th-century Hitchcock flour mill.

Taking inspiration from Leicester's textile history and the current discussion of fast fashion, my design aims to bring slow fashion back into Leicester and promote small businesses and creativity in an age where everything is mass-produced. Maintaining the mill as a nod to Leicester’s vibrant textile history whilst introducing a new community of textiles with a new purpose in contemporary, local, community-owned production! Offering small businesses, a space to be creative as well as enabling the promotion of their designs! I appropriated the textile method of weaving as a design process, weaving two separate programs to produce a variety of different and unexpected spatial opportunities, programmatic relationships, and unpredictable social interactions! Using Collage, Montage, and sketches as a tool not only to conceptually influence the design but inform advances in the proposal and its relationship with space, materiality, and texture.

Reviving the existing building and creating a new radical architecture.
