Srentak Hub Part 1 Project 2023 Ayesha Kamila Rafifah University of Malaya | Malaysia Srentak Hub, which sits in the heart of Teluk Intan, a charming town in Perak, Malaysia, is derived from the word rentak; to undulate and serentak; to happen simultaneously.Aimed to tackle the concern of building up sand islands that trouble Perak River navigation, the art & craft cultural incubator hub promotes sand as the main raw material to produce pottery, art, and glass. It is architecturally translated from the culmination of river sand, as a cultural hub acts in the same manner as sand; it is always dictated by the external forces happening around it, which is the way it is shaped by the community of Teluk Intan. By interpreting it as such, an undulating space with crevices and crescents that provides richness of content is introduced.Depth of urban context is added through reinterpretation of traditional shophouse spatial layout and roof skylines, blowing up its scale into a festive cultural hub. Urban interventions that enhanced liveliness around the city center come in form of plaza and connected walkways links from all directions, as if Srentak Hub is carved out by the pedestrian flow. Meanwhile, sustainability approaches were considered through orientation, materiality, and passive design strategies of the building. Tutor(s) Tang Chee Eun Linda Shafarina Hassan
