From the Structural Module to the Residential Complex Part 1 Project 2023 Martín Mackay Romero Pontifical Catholic University of Chile Santiago | Chile To create six housing exercises under the same wooden structural module, I begin by experimenting with dimensions based on the Japanese tatami with its 2:1 proportions of 90x180cm. From there, responding to the maximum size of Chilean wood and the dimensions of habitable spaces, I propose a 'new tatami' of 80x160cm.With this foundation, the first three exercises for houses test different module dimensions in response to typologies of Yard, Tower, and Gallery Houses. Creating modules of 480x480cm, 320x640cm, and 480x480cm, respectively, which through various operations, fulfil the typological idea of each house. In the other three exercises related to residential complexes on specific grounds, I define after exploring the 320x640cm module with double pillars and laminated wooden beams. I use this to create neutral interiors for the program and valuable exteriors. This achieves a fourth exercise, which is situated in the city, utilizes two towers and bridges to enhance an open space. A fifth project, located in the mountains, creates two spaces to respond to the climate. Finally, a sixth exercise, situated in a ravine close to the sea, generates a public trail with different viewpoints at different heights. Tutor(s) Philippe Blanc
