In recent years, health and well-being have increasingly gained significance in the cultural, environmental, and economic contexts of the UK. The global pandemic has underscored the pivotal role that well-designed public spaces play in enhancing community well-being and fostering connections. Public Health England emphasizes that our physical and social environments wield a greater influence on our health than our individual habits, behaviours, healthcare, utilization, or inheritance. This holds particular relevance as we spend 90% of our time indoors. Consequently, there is now unified support from UK citizens and the government for growth and development that prioritizes health and well-being.

Creating spaces where people can gather and engage in activities promoting health and well-being not only fosters a sense of community and connection but also supports their physical, mental, and social well-being. This contributes to an urban setting that stimulates unity, partnership, and a rational sense of belonging. Recognizing the importance of increasing social capital and building strong, resilient communities, the scheme centres around the core principle of placemaking, with a focus on prioritizing the creation of healthy and inclusive spaces. The district facilitates lifelong health, satisfaction, and growth through education, entertainment, and opportunities for future generations.
