Museum of Water Part 1 Project 2023 Ben Bramley Sheffield Hallam University | UK Located in the historic old port of Rotterdam’s Maritime district. The Museum of Water is a complex of 5 buildings that provide a series of connected interactive spaces. Each space offers the user unique experiences in the form of water related exhibits. Upon entry, the visitors are guided by a stream of flowing water on a path to the central tower. Where the water crashes through a number of voids, before being cycled out to the River Maas. With the majority of the support spaces buried deep into the bank, the central Light and Sound tower is free to drift away, acting as a central hub for circulation, allowing visitors to create their own journey around the Museum. The Museum was conceived to allow visitors to navigate their own voyage through the exhibits in a non-linear fashion. This approach to circulation creates a different experience to the user every time they visit the Museum, with a new route possible each time. The Museum responds to not only the immediate context but also the wider city context by being orientated to face 3 of Rotterdam key districts that contribute to the cities heritage, lifestyle and economy.
