Vertical Boulevard is an ambitious project aiming to foster communities in the vertical housing context of Hong Kong. Achieved thought sculpting generous amount of diverse liveable outdoor living spaces and pushing the limit of shared amenities in living.

The project started as a reaction towards the living condition in Chinese shophouses building, units are often subdivided and rented to families as micro-units. Families living in these extreme conditions has most part of their living like cooking, laundry and studying trapped in their tight units. These initial reactions drove the strong intention of liberating the living amenities out of the unit by sharing, encouraging social interaction in the meantime.

From the formal exploration by collaging, the project developed into a series of outdoor corridor landscapes, each spanning a cluster of six stories to connect three stories of units and three stories of amenities. Including a bathhouse, shared kitchen, and dining space as well as laundry and lounge, and each floor including outdoor communal spaces. The design includes three clusters with different unit and user mix, sandwiched between clusters are amenities that connects the different communities of the housing, for instance, gym and playground that extends the communal element.
