Parkside Exchange at S.D.R Park Part 1 Project 2023 Fanghao LinL [Qirui] Fang Pratt Institute | USA The Parkside Exchange is a multi-purpose market and community center complex located at the northern end of Sarah D Roosevelt Park, In the heart of lower Manhattan. In the concrete jungle that is New York City, urban green spaces are in short supply. However, lack of maintenance and a rise in crime deter residents of the surrounding communities to enjoy the amenities that the park offers. The project aims to reinvigorate the derelict park by introducing programs such as a farmer's market, communal classrooms, and other social spaces. To preserve the open spaces and greenery provided by the park scape, the project is elevated above ground by a cable suspension system, and introduces a renewed landscape through the manipulation of topography. Comprising green materials such as CLT and incorporating state-of-the-art geothermal climate control systems, the proposal offers a sustainable outlook for urban renewal. Situated between Chinatown and Lower East Side, the project site is an intersection between the diverse communities of NYC. By encouraging interaction through our communal programs, the project aims to break down the invisible barriers of Red Lining that divide NYC communities and serve as a bridge of exchange that transcends culture, ethnicity, and wealth.
