What can we do with dust?Dust is an undesirable and neglected product of nature. It is naturally occurring, but unseen. Ever since the invention of exhaust, ventilation, and purification systems, humans have been actively trying to remove dust from our living spaces. However, dust is never removed, only displaced. As dust travels, they carry layers of geographical and environmental information compressed at particulate and atomic scales.Dust is a contradictory substance. It is ambiguous but specific. Its composition is ever-changing, encompassing specific geographical and ecological information about not only its locality, but also the larger territorial context, revealing particular natural and human events that happened in the past.Dust is honest and just. It uncovers all that has happened without bias. It is a carrier of authentic information and, hence, an unconventional time register for the world we live in.Thus, this thesis aims to utilize the archaeological properties of dust to create an authentic archive for our anthropocene.
