Epoch 7

Part 2 Project 2024

As our climate changes, an approach similar to RIBA Stage 7, but on a global scale is proposed to support, maintain and improve the world’s environmental network: to consider the Anthropocene Earth as a hybrid organism. Its architecture is being altered by ours, as we leave the Holocene Epoch.

Instruments of environmental stability are required to harmonise our industrial methodologies with the survival of the planet to secure a viable home for all life.

As artificial intelligence accelerates technology in energy, bioengineering and global data, these new developments create a possible near future of part biological, part technological autonomous interventions which can form a global network of climate stabilisation.

Their primary programme is within the hydrosphere. Through a process which can be thought of as global acupuncture, the project aims to re-balance the environment through carefully sited proposals at key sites.

• Monitoring - oceanic data collection through volumetric drone swarm deployment and analysis.
• Purification - removal of nitrates in oceans and rivers through hybrid organic machines.
• Re-wilding - through environmentally responsive habitat augmentation.
• Coastal remodelling - swarms of forest propagators
• Transit - lungs of ice, excreting saline to support the ocean conveyor belt in strategic locations.
