Garibong-dong in Seoul is an area densely populated with Korean-Chinese workers, located across a main road from the Gasan Digital Complex.

Before the complex was established, Garibong-dong primarily consisted of very small, densely packed, and disorganized houses where laborers from the former industrial area used to live. With the advent of the digital complex, Garibong-dong, which had ceased to serve as accommodation for factory laborers, became a hub for foreign workers due to its low rental costs. Among the blocks in Garibong-dong, the one located right next to the main road is being abandoned due to excessively high residential density and deteriorating facilities. It starts from the situation of a future where massive commercial areas are built at the boundary of the block next to the main road.

This intervention involves partially demolishing the dilapidated facilities and creating a buffer zone in the center of the block to preserve Garibong-dong's culture. This central area, while matching the scale of the massive digital complex, will be densely equipped with cultural facilities, community centers, green spaces, and sports facilities. Instead of fully opening up the block, it is based on a dense, modular structure in accordance with future extensibility to surrounding blocks.
