The Riverside Hub is a landmark project which serves as a centre of sustainable energy, community engagement, and education in Scotland. Located along the River Dee, the centre supports Scotland’s Net Zero Future, powering 350 new homes through Biomass. The ‘Skills Campus’ for education was designed with cooperation with universities and colleges in mind. It features a viewing gallery offering insight into the energy plant and is visible when approaching from the street.

The predominant horizontality of the wings creates space to embrace the Torry Community, serving as a centre for social interaction and collective engagement. The deep roof structure integrates soft diffused light and allows for a familiar human scale, especially in the nursery.

The project is made unique through the addition of a neighbourhood park. Through planting some native missing plant species and many, the locals will be drawn to appreciate the biodiversity of the waterfront. With its towering presence, almost as if sprouting from the ground, the chimney serves as a beacon above the tree canopy inviting people to spend time here and explore the biomass plant. The sculptures scattered around resemble the chimney and serve as a monument to the harmony between Aberdeen and Torry.
