Chrono-Loggia Al Shallalat Part 2 Project 2024 Salma Hossam Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport - Alexandria Campus | Egypt Designed to integrate, Chrono-Loggia Al Shallalat aims to breathe life back into the remaining monuments of Alexandria, buried deep within its core found at the Ancient city’s centre, right in the middle of a public park. Chrono-Loggia is derivative from the words “Chronological” and “Loggia” to depict the flow of time through the use of architectural elements such as the loggia, a Greek terminology for a sheltered corridor that links inside and out. This “Loggia” is used throughout the project as the main area of circulation and the link between the different archaeological sites surrounding the project. The project acts as a visitor’s centre to an already existing array of archaeological sites that is the three surrounding monuments and exhibits the findings that were discovered while excavating the area. It also contains the Oculus, a raised observatory deck through which the entire clearance of the park can be seen as well as deep into the streets of Old Alexandria. The Oculus also acts as an open-air theatre within the public park serving as a facility that is for the people and ensuring activation of the museum area regardless of the museum’s working hours.
