Named as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Historic Jeddah known as Al-Balad, remains as a living testament of the rich cultural diversity brought by annual pilgrimage and thriving sea trade. Originally erected in the 1970s, the project existing structure is nestled within the historic district and enveloped by heritage properties adding to its significance. The adaptive reuse project marks a pivotal step in demonstrating a commitment to revitalizing the rich historical fabric and establishing robust heritage-based tourism in the City of Jeddah.

The proposed Ghula Boutique Hotel, embraces a particular vocabulary and pattern lexicon derived from the unique architectural elements found in Al-Balad, employing specific and innovative technical and aesthetic solutions to cope with the extreme climatic conditions of the region. Ghula, an integral part of the elaborate latticework (Roshan), is seen across the bustling urban fabric of the city and along its imposing tower houses, becoming an architectural trademark cherished by tourists and locals alike.

Ghula Boutique Hotel aims to revive vernacular architectural methods curated by our ancestors, emphasizing sustainable practices in a changing world. By integrating traditional and modern elements, the hotel offers a memorable stay and pays homage to the rich cultural tapestry that defines Al-Balad.
