Murano’s Wellness and Sports Hub Part 1 Project 2024 Niels Horn University of Central Lancashire | UK Murano's Sport and Wellness Hub in Venice, Italy, is a transformative redevelopment project that repurposes a former industrial site and harbour into a vibrant nature reserve and community focused facility. The project integrates an existing sports facility into a new architectural framework designed to promote wellness, healthy living, and intergenerational engagement.A central feature is the 250 meter-long bridge connecting the two parts of the hub. This bridge is part of the island's 2.5 km route, with the building itself constituting 10% of this pathway. The bridge's design, comprising a series of trusses and a facade using recycled glass from Murano's historical glass factories, honours the site's industrial heritage while presenting a modern, visually appealing architectural character. One side of the bridge extends over a section of the sports centre, including running tracks and football fields. This feature fosters a dynamic interaction between the built environment and the athletic activities below. On the opposite side, the bridge is anchored in the water, creating a striking contrast between the elevated cantilever and the water-bound structure. This emphasises the unique interplay between various elements of the natural and built environments. Niels Horn Tutor(s) Sam Eadington
