A reminder for society of the importance and impact of green and open spaces on their daily life quality, and how the community plays a huge role in maintaining a park’s physical state. Also, creating a scientific environment that educates, advocates, and acts on reforesting neglected parks and choosing types of trees wisely according to site characteristics and tolerance to ensure a long-term thriving park.

Through this research centre, Alexandria’s parks have a chance of once again thriving and acting to their full potential for users and the environment.

The complexity of El-Shalalat Park calls for an integrated intervention that restores and sustains its ecosystem and economic value, through a holistic integration entity that tackles all aspects of the park: environmental, cultural/economic, and social.

A research centre that focuses its work on reforesting the park’s landscape while offering more to the public through a first-hand connection with the park’s cultural aspect. Ensuring the building adds to the user experience rather than blocking it, a social park extends underneath the building, creating an added area for the park in memory of the land area lost to nearby urban development of buildings and infrastructure over the years.
