Healing the Land Part 1 Project 2022 Diana Ruzanska Birmingham City University | UK The ownership of land is often a misleading question, although very simple. We build from land and therefore everything belongs to it. Through this project, there will be relatives uncovered - parts of a broader ecological, cultural and historical system that interconnect creating all the living. So instead of using land as a resource for creating, the creation will become a relative to the land. Located in the Black Country (West Midlands, UK) - a heavily urbanized area with many scars on its land from its history of mining and industry, with only the sense of belonging and community keeping it alive. The dead land is to be healed with plants by transforming derelict plots of land into space for urban agriculture. An open process of harvest and processing happening in sync with the daily routine of locals will aim to raise interest, understanding, and awareness of the nature surrounding us. As well as zooming into the process by creating gardens and orchards on site and allowing active participation in its caretaking. The human-nature connection is put upfront to develop a sense of care for the environment in each individual.
