Symposium: The New Cultural and Civic Hub of Bath – The Adelard Centre Part 1 Project 2019 Lucie Castillo-Ros University of Bath | UK Despite the modernisation of our society and the increasing interconnectedness ofindividuals, it seems that our capacity to exchange has been lost. Every day, the internet allows us to reach more people than we will ever be able to meet in real life. But to what extent do we continue to engage with the world. Do we feel heard, and understood? Cities need to create new spaces to encourage interactions and the expression of public opinion, breaking the boundaries between communities and individuals. The Adelard centre will be this place for the city of Bath. Run by a Bathonian charity and in partnership with both local universities and institutions, the centre will aim at the encouragement of discussion with and within the local communities, through talks, symposium, but also classrooms and exhibitions.Located in an urban courtyard, the building creates a peaceful enclosed garden, around which the discussions are held on every level, from the unformal conversation to the organised debate. This garden extends outward, encouraging the conversation to continue outside of the walls of the institution. Lucie Castillo-Ros Tutor(s)
