Influenced by the challenges posed by COVID-19 and the current global landscape of frequent disasters, ‘Conwy: Responsive Pandemic Town’ introduces innovative adaptable structures aimed at improving future pandemic responses in Conwy, Wales; serving as a testbed and research centre for all UK towns.

The concept centres on a dynamic, movable system that works alongside the listed town walls, allowing spaces to be reconfigured for pre, post and legacy pandemic modes, enhancing functionality and safety. Spaces change in both form and function in each phase – a research and public engagement centre during pre-pandemic, the scheme changes shape to adapt to pandemic phases to monitor and manage safety protocols.

The project addresses the urban challenges of future pandemics by exploring the in- built resilience of UK towns, proposing modifications to improve ventilation, isolation, and crowd control. The versatile configuration supports multiple activities, from community events to healthcare services, ensuring relevance and utility under different conditions.
