The design accompanies and supports the full project proposal for the re-development of the Vancouver Quay, Salford, Manchester (M50 3TT) in line with the functionality of the brief commands in designing an International 20th Century Art Centre honouring H.R Giger. The following Design has been conducted with reference to significant documents; 2012 (Founded): National Planning Policy Framework, and 2019 (Founded): Salford City Council: ‘A Fairer City’. The Design will aim to explicitly explain how the proposed development is a suitable response to the site context, public realm, user-requirements and client vision.

The proposal design honours the style of the artist H.R.Giger, reiterating elements of the methods he undertakes in his artwork, embedded into the design concept. Giger artwork forms an industrial/ mechanical look, inserting multiple pathways within his art in order to reflect a non-invasive space that promotes mental wellbeing, in-opposed to a claustrophobic/heavy finish. This concept respects and mimics the history of Salford Quays, as the urban regeneration scheme following the 20th century and post-war period ensured the abolishment of industrial activity in the district. Therefore, the proposal considers cultural/ historic value of the city’s heritage, ensuring a wider scale of social inclusion and place making in the area.
